Sunday 2/15 Entry

Shigeru Takato

Takato's photographs play off of well recognized, or generalized, locations that are rarely, if at all, scene without people. In the series of new desks, Takato explores the intricate sets that are never in the forefront of one's mind. It is interesting to see all of the detail that goes into what could be a simple background, and what becomes of this background when it is not being seen in its original context.

Her apartment series features vacant and sterile living areas which are reminiscent of online apartment showcases created with the purpose of selling the space. Even so, it contrast in the lack of staged prescence. Even with apartment showcases, books are laid out tastefully and fresh flower are arranged on a table. Instead, Takato again leaves you with the bare mininum amount of information needed and asks you to gain a perspective from it.
